If you ask Hawaiian music lovers, “Who is the top traditional Hawaiian music group,” the name you’ll hear most often is The Makaha Sons.
For almost 30 years, The Makaha Sons have been entertaining audiences worldwide with their distinctive harmonies, elaborate musical arrangements, and commanding stage presence. Their shows are a magical blend of music, hula, and the invisible aloha spirit that you can’t see, but you can definitely feel. Everyone leaves a Makaha Sons performance feeling a little better than when they walked in.
Composer and arranger Louis "MOON" Kauakahi (6-string guitar) leads the trio, along with brothers Jerome "BOOGIE" Koko (12-string guitar) and John Koko (upright bass). These three men are the epitome of what it takes to keep traditional Hawaiian music alive today.
The Makaha Sons have recorded over 20 albums, which have garnered multiple Na Hoku Hanohano Awards. They continue to tour extensively throughout the U.S. and internationally, and also headline many concerts in Hawaii, including their annual signature concert, “Take a Walk in the Country” at the Waikiki Shell in June.
